The AWLC was proud to be able to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the club and is grateful to the Lima community and former members who shared in the celebrations that took place during 2012.

Special thanks to Marie Meyer for her help in reaching out to former members via her article at www.peruthisweek.com/column-51-Marie-Meyer-recommends-The-American-Womens-Literary-Club/

Celebrating with the AWLC

Our kick-off celebration on Thursday, March 8, 2012 took place with an International Women's Day Luncheon and Retrospective Fashion Show for our sponsors, members and former members. Our very special AWLC 90th Anniversary Yearbook & Membership Directory was presented at this occasion and U.S. Ambassador Rose Likins gave a thought-provoking talk on the advancements of women and the challenges that still face us.

On Monday, April 2, 2012 we launched our new, glossy cookbook, "FRESH FLAVORS!" The AWLC Cookbooks are justly famous, and this one - edited by celebrity ?Chef Kim? Allen-Jones - promises to be as popular as the others, with delicious recipes in English and Spanish, based on the traditions of a country that prides itself on its cuisine.

The official 90th Anniversary Party was held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Residence of the U.S. Ambassador with guests welcomed by Charlie Chaplin in a nod to our early years. Charge D'affaires Michael Fitzpatrick presided in the Ambassador's absence, but she was able to join us via weblink to pay tribute to the special evening. 1966 President Mercedes Dewey returned to Lima for the event and did the honors of cutting a special cake prepared by students of Peru's Cordon Bleu.

The 9th Annual "Noche de Música" took place on Thursday, September 13, 2012 with another magical evening at the US Ambassador's Residence, for our signature fundraiser event with all proceeds going towards education.

The Holiday Tea featured the premiere of a short film tracing 90 years of club history. Called "String of Pearls", it showcases the diverse and fascinating lives of club members over the decades - a veritable string of pearls through time.
